Polish American Congress Honors Rev. Marek Sobczak

October 27, 2011

Brooklyn, NY - Rev. Marek Sobczak pastor of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint section, is the recipient of the Polish American Congress Clergy Award at the organization’s Annual Awards Banquet at the Polonaise Terrace on Sunday, October 30th.

Father Sobczak is shown here (center) at the special memorial service his parish holds every year at the Father Jerzy Popieluszko monument in Greenpoint’s McCarren Park.  Frank Milewski (right), president of the Downstate N.Y. Division of the Polish American Congress, looks on.

Although born in Poland, most of Father Sobczak’s years in the priesthood have been here in the United States.  He came to Greenpoint, the largest Polish American community on the East Coast, in 2008.

Rev. Sobczak personally exemplifies the old Polish tradition, “God, Honor, Country.”   Whenever events in or about Poland hit the headlines, the media consistently come to his church in Greenpoint to ask about the reaction of the Polish community to those events.

He is a member of the Vincentian Order.
