With stunningly beautiful imagery, one of Europe’s finest puppet theaters brings to life the stories of the legendary Polish-Jewish writer Bruno Schulz (1892-1942).who is widely regarded as the finest modern prose stylist in the Polish language, as well as the significant visual artist. The Last Escape is the story of a pensioner trapped in his room, trying to break through his own loneliness and despair by recalling his past and conjuring up a new world where time exists on many levels. Schulz, Poland’s preeminent Jewish writer, has been an inspiration for such writers as Cynthia Ozick, John Updike, and Philip Roth. (In Polish with English supertitles; translation from Polish to English: Danuta Borchardt)

The performances at the JCC in New York are part of a US tour of the Wroclaw Puppet Theatre.
