Szarejko is New Chairman of PAC;s Long Island Chapter

March 16, 2011

Brooklyn, N.Y. … The Downstate New York Division of the Polish American Congress announced it has filled the vacancy on the Long Island Chapter by appointing Chet Szarejko the new chairman of the group.

With more than twenty-five years of hard-earned experience in New York City politics, Szarejko aims to give Long Island’s Polish American community a stronger political voice and visibility.

His success with the Downstate Division’s Political Activities Committee suggests the Polish Americans who live in Nassau and Suffolk Counties can count on a strong and determined leadership from him.

Szarejko is currently acknowledged as the most prominent Polish American political leader in New York City. During the time he was a Democratic Party district leader in  Queens County, he built his club to become one of the most powerful in that county.

Although he has never sought public office for himself, Szarejko has often advised and guided aspiring political candidates who asked his help in their own campaigns.

A resident of Little Neck and Southampton, Szarejko is a retired high school social studies teacher, club manager and real estate operator.

“Chet’s a team player and a hard worker who gets results. We’re glad he agreed to fill the vacancy on Long Island,” said Frank Milewski, president of the Downstate PAC, who appointed Szarejko to the spot.

Milewski also named Richard Romanski, a real estate broker and operator from Hampton Bays, to be Szarejko’s vice chairman.

In the Polish American Congress, a state division may form a chapter when the division wants to extend and enhance its own activities in a particular area.  The chapter does not operate as an independent unit but remains part of the state division.

Officers of a chapter are appointed, not elected. This was the way the Downstate N.Y. Division started its Long Island Chapter in 2008.
