Piast Institute Announces the Election of Two New Board Members

Hamtramck, MI – The Piast Institute announces the election of two new members to its Board of Directors, Mr. Steven Plochocki and Ms. Sylvia Meloche. They will both serve four-year terms on the Board.

Mr. Plochocki serves as president, chief executive officer and member of the Board of Directors at Quality Systems, Inc., a developer and provider of computer-based practice management, patient medical record and both e-business and revenue cycle management applications as well as connectivity products and services for medical and dental group practices throughout the United States.

He is a 30-year healthcare industry veteran. He joined Quality Systems (NASDAQ:QSII) as chief executive officer in 2008, after having served in that position at four healthcare companies, two of which were publicly traded. Previously, he was chairman and CEO of Omniflight Helicopters, a leading air medical services provider, where he oversaw a restructuring of the company’s operations. Prior to Omniflight, he was chief executive officer at both Trinity Hospice and InSight Health Services, Inc. (diagnostic imaging) and president at homecare leader Apria Healthcare.

He has earned numerous industry accolades, including being the only executive to win two national American Business Awards for best business turnarounds (for InSight in 2003 and Trinity in 2006). The InSight turnaround was featured in Donald Trump’s book Trump: The Way to the Top: The Best Business Advice I Ever Received. He also received the 2002 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in the health services category and was inducted into the Entrepreneur of the Year Hall of Fame.

He has been a featured speaker at the University of California at Irvine’s healthcare MBA program and an annual speaker at Pepperdine University, Graziado School of Business and Management Entrepreneurial Program. He speaks often at healthcare industry conferences and on panels where he addresses top-of-mind healthcare issues as well as strategies for corporate operational improvements and turnarounds.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and public relations from Wayne State University and a Master of Arts degree in business management from Central Michigan University. He was raised in the Detroit area and has a deep commitment to his Polish Heritage.

Ms. Sylvia Meloche is the Outreach Coordinator for the Center for Russian and Eastern European Studies (CREES) and the Center for European Studies / European Union Center (CES / EUC) at the University of Michigan. She formally served as Assistant to the Rector for International Programs at Rzeszὀw University and was the University’s Representative to the Union of Carpathian Universities. She has taught at the college and university levels and at private schools such as Kingwood School in the Cranbrook Educational Community. She also served at Wayne State University and St. Mary’s College in Orchard Lake as a librarian.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University and a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education as well as a Master of Arts degree in Library Science from the University of Michigan. She has in addition studied Polish culture and language at Jagiellonian University in Krakow and St. Mary’s College. A specialist in folk dance and choreography, she has also taught Polish and other folk dances.

She has a number of publications to her credit. She was written American Sketches (Rzeszow 1996), edited Russia: Continuation or Turning Point? (1995), and authored several articles in Sarmatian Review, Periphery, and more than a dozen papers and reviews.

She is the recipient of a number of awards and honors, including a Kosciuszko Foundation grant and a Fulbright award.
