October 3, 2010 – 73rd Annual Pulaski Day Parade Polish Americans Come Together in Honor of General Casimir Pulaski Hero of the American Revolutionary War.

NEW YORK CITY FIFTH AVENUE TO CLOSE SUNDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2010 FROM 12 NOON-6PM

The General Pulaski Memorial Parade Committee, Inc. of New York announces its celebration honoring the great Polish born American hero who was instrumental in securing American freedom during the American Revolutionary War. The theme of this Parade is “Poland and America Perfect Together” as we celebrate the long history of America and Poland being strong allies for democratic values. In addition this year the parade observes the following historical events

200 Years of the Birth of Frederic Chopin the great Musical Composer and Pianist
70th Anniversary of the Soviet Massacre of 20,000 officers of Poland in the Katyn Forest
600th Anniversary of the Polish Victory at the battle of Grunwald

President Richard Zawisny, of the General Pulaski Memorial  Committee and 2010 Grand Marshal, The Honorable Stanley Moskal, Deputy Mayor of the City of Garfield, New Jersey  along with all the members of the committee have been working diligently to ensure the biggest, most colorful and best parade yet.

At 9 a.m. on the day of the parade, there will be a concelebrated special Liturgy by Clergy from the Archdiocesan Sees of New York, NY, Brooklyn, NY, and Newark, NJ and the Diocese of Paterson, NJ at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.

The Parade itself will step off from Fifth Ave. at 35th Street at 12:30 p.m. led by The World Champions Caballeros Marching Band of Hawthorne, New Jersey  leading the way  up 5th Avenue to 56th Street. If you wish to view the Parade from the reviewing stands, which will be located at 40th and 41st Streets, in front of the New York Public Library you may purchase tickets by contacting Peter Walentowicz at (973) 432-8841.

Over 150 Polish-American organizations will be marching up Fifth Ave. accompanied by numerous Honorable Dignitaries from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut  along Veterans, Members of the Boys and Girls Scouts, Cultural Organizations many in colorful folk dress of the various regions of Poland, along with local Polish Communities each led by  local contingent marshals with 25 floats and 30 marching bands. This annual event has been celebrated on Fifth Ave. since 1937, in honor of the memory of Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski, a courageous soldier who gave his life during the American Revolutionary War. His life represents the dedication of countless Polish Americans to the personal liberty and independence, which has defined the spirit of the United States of America. It is the second longest active parade in New York City history and marches rain or sun.
