The Battle for Warsaw - 1944

On September 17th, 18th and 19th the Kosciuszko Foundation, An American Center for Polish Culture, will present a multi-faceted artistic project to commemorate and publicize the 1944 Warsaw Uprising.

All events are prepared in collaboration with the Warsaw Uprising Museum in Warsaw, Poland, The Polish Army Veterans Association of America and the Polish Consulate in NY. The Tribute will take place at the Kosciuszko Foundation House, 15 East 65th Street, New York City, Phone: 212-734-2130
 
On Sept 17th, visitors will have a rare opportunity to see the unique photographs from the collection of the Warsaw Uprising Museum in Warsaw, Poland. They will also learn about the prewar history and architecture of the capital of Poland, once called The Paris of North. There will be a bilingual dramatic reading of poetry and prose accompanied by the songs of the period. On that day there will be also an awards ceremony for the historical essay contest on the worldwide significance of the 1939 invasion of Poland.

On Sept 18th there will be a screening of the documentary Betrayal: The Battle for Warsaw with commentary by the director, Andrew Rothstein and with the presence of some of the Insurrectionists themselves. 

On Sept 19th there will be a bilingual, theatrical performance of the play, "Lightning" about the famed radio program of the Uprising, presented by the Polish Theatre Institute in the USA, Inc.

Two exhibits of unique historical photographs.  
The photographs will be accompanied by bilingual historical notes. 
 
1. Warsaw - "Paris of the North"
An exhibit of photographs from the collection of the Warsaw Uprising Museum will show the beauty, charm and vigor of prewar Warsaw.
 
2. 63 days An exhibit of photographs taken by the insurrectionists during the 63 days of the Warsaw Uprising, from the collection of the Polish Army Veterans Assoc. of America.
 
3. Warsaw. The City in images, words and music. A dramatic reading of poetry and prose accompanied by a slide show of the Uprising from the collection of the Warsaw Uprising Museum and a performance of patriotic songs of the period by Marta Wryk. Hosted by Grazyna Drabik.
