Dimiter Tchernookov - violin, Justyna Maj - piano
Pianist Justyna Maj, second-prize winner in the 1999 Canadian Chopin Competition, and first prize winner in the junior category of the International Chopin Competition in Gottingen, Germany. She was chosen to perform in the 1998 National (Canadian) Debut Young Concert Artist Series, placed second in the Toronto Symphony Orchestra Competition and was the top prizewinner in the Pacific Piano Competition and Kay Meek Concerto Competition. In October 2000, she participated in the 14th International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition held in Warsaw and in 2004 she was the semi-finalist at the Third China International Piano Competition in Beijing. Recently in March 2005, she was a prizewinner at the Emmanuel Durlet International Piano Competition in Antwerpen, Belgium. Ms. Maj has been frequently heard on Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC Radio) and has also recorded for German and Polish National Radio.
Violinist Dimiter Tchernookov, a native of Sofia, Bulgaria, has performed over 40 concerts during the 2005-2006 Season in Europe and USA, as a soloist as well as a chamber musician and orchestra member. As a winner of the 2006 Mannes Concerto Competition, he performed the Saint-Saens 3rd Violin Concerto with the Mannes Orchestra in December ‘06. As a chamber musician and soloist, Mr. Tchernookov has played in such venues as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Yamaha Hall, Yale Club, Colony Club, Museum of the City of New York, Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria, Consulate General of France (New York City), Theatre Mogador, Association France-Ameriques (Paris, France). He has also appeared in many solo and chamber music recitals throughout France, Italy, Holland, and Bulgaria.
