Summer artcamp in Szczawnica, Poland

WHERE
This year we plan to introduce our young artists to unique traditions, picturesque landscapes of old polish resort Szczawnica.The town sitting at the foothills of the Pieniny Mountains, Szczawnica is a vibrant and colorful tourist destination. It offers countless local attractions from craftsmen’s boutiques and restaurants to concerts and white water rafting. It is rich in the old, ornate wooden architecture with the great lookouts on the Grajcarek River valley and surrounded by the Pieniny Mountains. Pieniny ridge, once reached by foot or chair lift, will expose students to the magnificent vistas of surrounding valleys, Tatra Mountains, Beskidy and Gorce Mountains.

WHEN

ART PROGRAM
Our camp will help young people to discover and spark their interest in art. The participants work on their art projects led by the experienced, bilingual art teachers. Daily excursions provide inspiration and subjects for artwork. The students will illustrate their daily experiences while working in a pleasant and student-friendly atmosphere.The students will paint with tempera, watercolor, dry and oil pastels, also create sculptures and enjoy drawing with coal, pencil and sepia.They will have fun with collage and linoleum-print. All participants’ art work will be presented at an after-camp exposition in the Polish Consulate in New York or in the Yonkers Public Library in Westchester County.

HIKING PROGRAM
Our goal is to introduce young Americans to hiking and to instill in them the respect and love for the Polish Carpathian Mountains.We are planning hiking trips to various mountains: Male Pieniny,Trzy Korony, Wysoka, Sokolica and Prehyba. We also plan to take the bus trips to interesting local sites, such as: medieval castles in Nidzica and Czorsztyn, a spa town of Szczawnica, a monastery in Slovakia called Czerwony Klasztor, and to Lubowla, one of the biggest castles in Slovak Republic.We will visit and paint the historical wooden Catholic Orthodox churches.We will swim in the Biala Woda River and go rafting on the Dunajec River. Finally, we will attend a concert to Muzyczna Owczarnia and try some local delicacies. The last two days of the camp students will spend in Kraków. Our program in Kraków includes visits to the Wawel Royal Castle, the largest European open air salon – the Market Square (Rynek), and to the Czartoryski Museum. We will also make a stop at a restaurant on Slawkowska Street where, following the Camp’s tradition, we will dine on pizza and polish cuisine specialty pierogi (dumplings).

The cost of participation in the program is $1050, and the airfare is $1250. Limited financial aid is available for qualifying participants.
