Piast Institute President Meets With President E. Gordon Gee Of The Ohio State University About His Negative Remarks On The Polish Military
March 11, 2012
HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – On February 21, 2012, Dr. Thaddeus Radzilowski of the Piast Institute and President E. Gordon Gee of the Ohio State University met to discuss President Gee's remarks mischaracterizing the Polish Navy as incompetent and disorganized for which he later apologized. The visit came on the invitation of President Gee in the wake of a letter to him from Dr. Radzilowski about his unfortunate remark.
After an hour of discussion in which President Gee repeated his apology and the two discussed the genesis of the prejudice against Polish Americans in the United States and against Poles and Poland more broadly, the meeting broadened to include Dr. Gee’s assistant and a representative of the Slavic department. The discussion expanded to include Dr. Radzilowski’s suggestions for programs to address the lack of knowledge about Poland, the prejudices it engenders, ideas for projected programs and a symposium developed by the university faculty at Dr. Gee’s request. Dr. Yana Hasimova of the OSU Slavic Department also outlined the already existing courses in Polish studies and language.
The Piast Institute agreed to work with the Ohio State University to help make these programs a reality beginning with a major symposium on Poland and Polonia sponsored by the University. To receive a copy of Dr. Radzilowski's report on his visit with President Gee as well as a copy of his original letter to the Dr. Gee, please contact the Piast Institute at skrzyniarz@piastinstitute.org or write the Institute at 11633 Joseph Campau Ave., Hamtramck, MI, 48212.
