Bishop Robert J. Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, joined DeSales Media at the Diocese of Brooklyn’s official Christmas Tree Lighting earlier this evening in Brooklyn's Grand Army Plaza.

Bishop Brennan blessed the life-size Nativity Creche and Diocesan Christmas tree before the countdown to the lighting. “And amid all this busyness, we have this beautiful tree that will be even more beautiful as the lights are lit and this creche, this scene of the Nativity of our Lord. In the middle of our busy lives, we can stop and think about what these days are all about. And give thanks. We give thanks because God chose to live among us; God continues to walk among us,” said Bishop Brennan.

The 28-foot Norway Sprue stands near the Dr. Alexander Skene monument, adorned with more than 17,000 multi-colored LED lights to represent the diversity of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Banners displaying prayer intentions written by the students of Xaverian High School are displayed on the fencing around the tree.

Christine Persichette, the anchor of Currents News on NET-TV, hosted the event. Christmas carols were sung by cantors from the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph.
