"Cold War" by Paweł Pawlikowski at the New York Film Festival
August 30, 2018
"Cold War", winner of this year’s Best Director award at Cannes, will have its New York Premiere at the New York Film Festival, October 7 and 8, 2018.
2015 Academy Award–winner Paweł Pawlikowski follows up on his box-office sensation "Ida" with this bittersweet, exquisitely crafted tale of an impossible love. Set between the late 1940s and early 1960s, "Cold War" is a Communist-era drama, but it inventively avoids the clichés of many World War II art films. It follows a tempestuous love affair between a pianist (Tomasz Kot) and a singer (Joanna Kulig) as they must navigate the realities of living in both Poland and Paris, on both sides of the Iron Curtain. Shot in crisp black-and-white and set to a bewitching jazzy score, Pawlikowski’s film depicts an uncompromising passion caught in the gears of history.
