Lutoslawski Quartet with Mark Feldman & Sylvie Courvoisier in New York

June 21, 2017

On June 25, at National Sawdust, 80 N 6th St, Brooklyn, New York 11249

Jazztopad Festival is coming back to the National Sawdust with a real treat for fans of contemporary improvised music!

The first part of the concert will be made up of a dialogue between the piano and the violin. In the second part, we will hear the US premiere performance of Mark Feldman’s Super Slab Multiverse (special Jazztopad Festival commission) and a new arrangement of Courvoisier’s Lazuline. The duo will be accompanied by the Lutoslawski Quartet – the leading string quartet of contemporary music in Europe.

Sylvie Courvoisier and Mark Feldman are partners both in their professional and personal lives. The Swiss pianist is known, among other things, for her participation in the Mephista trio with Susie Ibarra and Ikue Mori; collaborations with John Zorn (including Masada Marathon and Cobra), Tomasz Stańko and Fred Frith; and also for her own recordings for ECM and Tzadik. “All Music Guide” described Courvoisier’s music as “beautiful and mysterious”. Violinist Mark Feldman regularly records and performs live with his wife. He can be heard on a number of Zorn’s albums and has also collaborated with Marc Ribot and Dave Douglas. Aside from jazz and avant-garde, his musical interests span contemporary classical (both as a performer and composer), and even country!

The American edition of the Jazztopad Festival is presented by the National Forum of Music, the Polish Cultural Institute New York, in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, National Sawdust, Jazz Gallery, Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater, Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center, Victoria Jazz Festival and TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival. Co-Partners: The Adam Mickiewicz Institute / Culture.pl, Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington, D.C.
