"Fireflies" with Dorota Czerner at National Opera Center in NY
May 19, 2017
On Friday, May 19, 2017 at 8:00PM, Collide-O-Scope Music will present "Fireflies," a large scale collaboration featuring live poetry performance by Dorota Czerner, original video art by Russell Craig Richardson, and new musical compositions by Elizabeth Hoffman, Christopher Burns, Elizabeth Adams, Christopher Bailey, and Lou Bunk.
This production marks the latest in a series of collaborative Collide-O-Scope Music concerts where a collection of new works are composed for the group to be woven together into one larger evening length composition. The theme for this concert is drawn from the three-part poem "Fireflies" by Dorota Czerner, which is inspired by Synchronous Fireflies (Photinus carolinus), a species of firefly found only in a small number of places in the world that spectacularly are able to synchronize their flickering lights over large fields. Both the form of the poem and the form of the concert itself explore this organizational theme as a starting point. Live poetry readings by Ms. Czerner will be interspersed throughout the musical environment in seamless fashion, along with a series of video compositions by Russell Cragi Richardson. Together, the poetic, visual, and musical elements will come together to project a single, integrated mixed-media composition.
