Evening with Ewa Chruściel, Krystyna Dąbrowska, Julia Fiedorczuk, Agnieszka Mirahina, and Izabela Morska in NY

March 18, 2016

Join five of Poland’s leading contemporary women poets to celebrate Scattering The Dark: An Anthology of Polish Women Poets

"Polish poetry is one of the great poetries of the world, and these cosmopolitan, multilingual poets speak to each other - and to us - across the decades, overcoming a great silence, redirecting the myths, reimagining the role of the poet, and the nature of poetry itself. Scattering the Dark is a useful, subversive, even necessary anthology." - Edward Hirsch

Scattering the Dark (White Pine Press, 2016) features work by 31 women spanning the decades of Poland’s lively modern history, writing before and after the fall of Communism. The anthology juxtaposes poets of different generations, regions and sensibilities, writing about topics such as history, dreams, the art of poetry, national myths and notions of home.
Ewa Chruściel, Krystyna Dąbrowska, Julia Fiedorczuk, Agnieszka Mirahina, and Izabela Morska will join anthology editor Karen Kovacik for an evening of readings, a discussion, and a Q&A, followed by a drinks reception and book signing.
The evening is co-presented by The Brooklyn Rail and its online journal of international literature, InTranslation. It is hosted by The Landing in their beautiful space in Brooklyn’s creative industry hub, Industry City in Sunset Park.
"Scattering the Dark: An Anthology of Polish Women Poets" is co-presented by the Polish Cultural Institute New York, InTranslation, The Brooklyn Rail, The Landing, and White Pine Press.
