Special screening of Teresa Czepiec’s extraordinary documentary short, “Superunit"

"Superunit" - An evening with the films of Teresa Czepiec at Tribeca Film Center (Tribeca Screening Room), 375 Greenwich St, New York, New York 10013
Polish Filmmakers NYC, founded by NYWIFT member Agata Drogowska and co-programmed by the Artistic Director of Gdynia Film Festival, Michał Oleszczyk, invites you to a special screening of Teresa Czepiec’s extraordinary documentary short, “Superunit”. Produced by Wajda Studio (producer of the Oscar-nominated short documentary “Joanna”), this is a stunningly shot portrayal of one of the prime examples of modern architecture of communist Poland: the Le Corbusier-inspired Superunit in Katowice. The film will be accompanied by two other shorts by the director, “Test” and “Resonance”, as well as a Q&A session with the director.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:
Teresa Czepiec, director of short films, writer and storyboard artist. Worked as an architect both in Poland and North Ireland. Studied directing at the Krzysztof Kieslowski Faculty of Radio and Television of the University of Silesia in Katowice. Graduated from the DOK PRO Documentary Programme in Wajda School and in visual arts from Le Fresnoy, France. Born in Belgium, works in Poland and France
ABOUT THE FILMS:
Super-Unit (20 min., Wajda Studio 2015 )
Super-Unit is a huge block of flats designed as a "housing machine". Up to three thousand people can live on 15 floors of the building. The lifts only stop every three floors so the residents must go through a maze of corridors and stairs in order to get to their flats. The main characters of the documentary are people living in Super-Unit and going through important moments of their lives there. This is where their emotions throb, their expectations engender, and their desires come true... or not. "Superunit" was presented at over 20 international film festivals.
"The Test" (26 min., MD4 2015)
How to guarantee oneself fast career progress and become famous? There is a helpful place called Fame & Success Potential Research Institute where young actress, Ana Sis, decides to go. She tests herself in term of marketing potential. However further efforts require more and more sacrifice. Will she finally succeed? “The Test” is a first live action feature directed by Teresa Czepiec, produced by a Polish company Mental Disorder 4. The film had its international premiere at the 2015 Krakow Film Festival.
"Resonance" (3 min, Wajda Studio 2013)
Love. Can it be researched and studied? A group of scientists decides to examine is using magnetic resonance imaging. "Resonance" is a part of a documentary production "8 Films About Love" created by the graduates of a documentary film course at Wajda School.
