December 01, 2014
The Skulski Art Gallery of the Polish Cultural Foundation in Clark is proud to present a exhibit titled "Fascinating People" by artist Halina Nawrot, December 5 - 31, 2014.
Halina Nawrot received her Masters Degree in architecture from the Technical University of Warsaw, and have worked successfully as an architect in both Poland and The United States. In the last 10 years, she has taken many classes and workshops with such artists as Nelson Shanks, Daniel Greene, Paul McCormack, Gary Goodbee and Aleksandra Nowak trying to learn art of oil painting, studying rather than painting. Her dream of becoming a portrait artist had to wait for a long time. Not until recently, over the last few years, has she been able to devote herself to painting full time. This is her second individual exhibition. To date she has participated in 24 art shows, 10 juried shows and received two awards. Her works can be found in private collections across the country.
"The exhibit "Fascinating People” features oil portraits created over the course of the last two years. The result of my great interest in portraiture, they recorded moments in the lives of ordinary and not so ordinary people from different walks of life; walks that have crossed mine. I try to stay objective and create a sensitive and compelling representations in the pursuit of emotional truth, these are not actors in my "creative theatre.”
Painting a portrait for me is a method of discovering another human being, understanding their unique qualities in a nonverbal, intuitive and visual way. I value likeness as the fundamental means of conveying the bold and subtle markers of personality and character. Rather than pursuing beautiful representations, I want to create dignified and realistic images that explore inner beauty. I find all my models endlessly interesting because of their singularity.
I invite you to meet my "fascinating people” - Halina Nawrot
