Protect Benefits of Over 2.5 million Social Security Recipients. Discharge Petition H.Res.1367

H.Res. 1367 is a Petition to Discharge the bipartisan bill H.R. 82, “Social Security Fairness Act of 2021”, so it can be brought to the House floor for a vote. H.R. 82 permanently repeals the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), which are penalties that unfairly reduce the benefits of over 2.5 million Social Security recipients.

One group among these recipients is Polish Americans who first earned a Polish pension, legally immigrated to the States, and then earned a Social Security pension. When they went to collect their Social Security pension, they were met with a shocking surprise. WEP requires their American pension to be reduced because they did not pay into Social Security while earning their Polish pension. As a result, many have experienced a significant reduction in their standard of living.

The WEP is a longstanding injustice that must be eliminated. It is imperative that House members vote to repeal it. 218 signatures of the US Representatives are required under the Discharge Petition by December 6, 2022, for it to be brought to the vote.

Polish Americans must urge their Representatives to sign H.Res. 1367 and then vote to pass H.R. 82 when it is brought to the House floor. The letter I've included informs Representatives of the details and can be used by your organization members as an email, letter, or script imploring them to sign the Discharge Petition.
