Pentagon gunman dead, no terrorist connection

March 05, 2010

The suspect who opened fire at police outside the Pentagon died after being shot by officers, Pentagon police said Friday, adding that the American had no connection to terrorism.

"There is no indication at this point that there are any domestic or international terrorist connections at all," chief Richard Keevill of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency told reporters about Thursday's shootout in front of shocked onlookers.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old John Patrick Bedell of California, "passed away" after being shot in the head by officers, two of whom were wounded in the assault but were expected to recover, Keevill said.
