The parents of American actor Andrew Koenig, best known for his role in the 1980s US sitcom "Growing Pains", have said their son has committed suicide.
"My son took his own life," Walter Koenig -- himself an actor who starred in "Star Trek" as Pavel Chekov -- told CBC television after visiting the vast Vancouver park where his son's body was found.
The 41-year-old's body was recovered from Vancouver's Stanley Park after he had been missing for almost two weeks.
The former "Growing Pains" star was said to have been suffering from depression.
Koenig played Richard "Boner" Stabone, in the show, which helped launch a checkered television career.
He had recently finished work on a feature film called "DaZe: Vol. Too (sic) - NonSeNse," which is in post-production and was scheduled to be released later this year.
Koenig had earlier followed his father into the "Star Trek" universe, playing Tumak in the 1993 series "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."
