Tasty cakes part of Polish holiday traditions
November 03, 2013
When visiting his hometown of Wadowice for the first time after ascending to the papacy, John Paul II remarked how he loved the kremówka pastries from the shop just down the street from his home. With that comment, kremówka became the Pope’s favorite pastry. You can learn how to make this custard-filled puff pastry at our November Polska Kuchnia class.
And since it takes more skill than time to prepare this dessert, we’ll also be making szarlotka one of many apple cakes popular throughout Poland. Our recipe has been handed down through the family of Jackie Johnson, Polish Youngstown’s own hard-working secretary. This class is perfect as we go into the holidays so that you can wow all your friends and relatives!
Class will take place on Sunday, November 10 from 12 - 4 pm at the First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Wick Ave. and Wood St. Parking and the entrance are in the rear of the church. Pre-registration and prepayment of $25.00 are requested. Learn more here.
