Scholarship Opportunity For Area Students
05 września, 2012
The Alliance College Alumni Association is proud to announce a Call for Applicants for its Foundation’s annual scholarship. The amount was increased this year to $1,912.00 to commemorate the 100th anniversary founding of the college.
While all majors are considered, preference will be given to an applicant majoring in Polish language, culture, or history. Additional preference will be given to applicants related to an Alliance College (or Alliance Technical School) alumnus.
Opened in 1912 by the Polish National Alliance, the largest Polish American fraternal insurance organization, Alliance College operated for seventy-five years as the crown jewel of higher learning for American Poles. Its mission was to offer immigrant children advanced educations during a time of discrimination while encouraging the study of Polish language and Polish culture in America.
In 1988, the school was closed and sold to the state of Pennsylvania to be used as a prison. In 2001, the alumni, faculty, and staff of all of it programs came together to create the Alumni Association as a means of hosting reunions, renewing acquaintances, sharing memories and, through this scholarship, encouraging post-secondary education.
Complete information on this opportunity is HERE. Applications must be postmarked no later than September 30, 2012.
