On June 20th, Dr. Dariusz Nasiek hosted his monthly networking event at Osteria Italiana in Garfield, NJ. Everyone gathered to connect, share ideas, and foster relationships that will drive innovation and growth in their respective fields. Networking is a powerful tool, and Dr. Nasiek is excited to provide a platform where you can exchange insights, collaborate on projects, and build lasting professional connections.

We thank our presenter, Sandy Moscaritolo, Esq., and sponsor, Dr. Gregory Hedgepeth (Paragon Neuromonitoring), for supporting this event. Your dedication is greatly appreciated.

Sandy Moscaritolo, Esq, opened the evening by speaking about Litigating Endoscopic Lumbar Facet Ablation to Juries and Arbitrators. Sandy received his law degree from the University of Bridgeport. Moscaritolo has served the Bergen County District Ethics Committee and lectured for the NJ Bar Association and the Citizen's Police Academy. In collaboration with Sandy, Dr. Nasiek, a master of his work, spoke about MISS (Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery). MISS is a surgery used to treat spine conditions with minimal disruption to the surrounding tissues. Unlike traditional open surgery, which requires a large incision to access the spine, MISS uses smaller incisions and specialized instruments to perform the procedure.

This approach reduces muscle damage, blood loss, and recovery time while achieving the desired surgical outcome. Dr. Nasiek went through each step in detail, from patient positioning to needle placement, showing photos and videos for a fully interactive presentation.

Critical features of minimally invasive spine surgery include Small Incisions: Dr. Nasiek would make one or more small incisions, often less than an inch long, through which they insert instruments and a small camera to guide the surgery. Next, Less Tissue Damage: MISS aims to minimize damage to the muscles and tissues surrounding the spine by avoiding significant cuts and extensive muscle retraction. Third, Specialized Instruments: Dr. Nasiek uses specialized instruments, such as tubular retractors and endoscopes, to precisely access and treat the spine. Fourth, Shorter Recovery Time: Patients often experience a quicker recovery compared to traditional open surgery, with less pain and a reduced need for pain medication. Fifth, Reduced Risk of Infection: Smaller incisions and shorter surgery times can decrease the risk of infection and other complications. Last, outpatient Option: Many minimally invasive spine surgeries can be performed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to go home the same day.

Conditions commonly treated with minimally invasive spine surgery include herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, and certain types of spinal deformities. Procedures can range from discectomies and laminectomies to spinal fusions and the insertion of implants.

Minimally invasive spine surgery is unsuitable for all patients or all spinal conditions. It is essential to consult with Dr. Nasiek to determine the most appropriate treatment option based on individual needs and medical circumstances. For a consultation, please call 201-894-1313.

We want to thank all who attended this event. Seeing so many familiar faces and new ones share in the networking festivities was an absolute pleasure. We wish you all a very happy and healthy summer!
