KRZYSZTOF TOPOLSKI and ADAM SIENKIEWICZ CEC Artslink\'s Performing Arts Program Fellows

Founded in 1962, CEC ArtsLink Residencies offer visual and performing artists and cultural managers from 37 eligible countries abroad an opportunity to collaborate with fellow US artists and organizations, and to exchange artistic experience at an established, non-profit arts organization in the US. In the 21 years since its founding, 486 Fellows from 29 countries have participated in the program and 259 leading cultural organizations and universities around the US have served as host sites. In an ongoing collaboration with CEC Artslink, beginning in 2006, the Polish Cultural Institute has supported artistic residency programs, bringing Polish visual and performing artists, such as Robert Lisek, Grazyna Halasa, Grzegorz Reske, Michal Kuriata, Luba Zarembinska, Marek Choloniewski, Sylwia Gorak, Dominika Knapik, and Jerzy Goliszewski. CEC Artslinks 2013 Performing Arts Program Polish Fellows are Krzysztof Topolski and Adam Sienkiewicz.

Polish sound-artist KRZYSZTOF TOPOLSKI will be hosted by The Ohio State University School of Music. Topolski\'s electronic compositions, improvised performances and projects incorporate field recordings, analog DIY hardware, sound and color exploration and new approaches to percussion. He also organizes sound walks, listening exercises and workshops to explore everyday acoustic landscapes and topics such as the history and use of feedback. He was recently asked by the Krakow National Museum to create an interactive exhibition soundtrack which reconstructs sounds associated with historic objects on display. Topolski wants to expand his knowledge of the experimental and sound art scene in the US, including circuit bending, alternative computer interfaces and programming, acoustic ecology and similar topics.

Founded in the late 1800\'s, the School of Music has a faculty of more than 60 professors, including nationally and internationally recognized performing artists, composers, scholars, and master teachers, in addition to over 40 full-time and part-time lecturers. Mr. Topolski will have an opportunity to present his work in concert and/or installation and to work with faculty and students in the School of Music, the Advanced Center for Computing in the Arts and Design, and the Art Department. He will have access to two computer-music studios equipped with the latest software, and to a recording studio staffed with a professional audio engineer. Thomas Wells, Professor of Music Composition, will oversee the residency. The Ohio State University School of Music is a former ArtsLink Residencies awardee.

ADAM SIENKIEWICZ, an arts manager and head of the production department at Nowy Teatr in Warsaw, will be hosted by the REDCAT in Los Angeles, CA.

Sienkiewicz has produced numerous international projects including the award-winning play African Tales based on texts by Shakespeare, which involved theaters from seven countries. One of Sienkiewicz\'s main goals for the Nowy Teatr is to engage with the lives of citizens. He has opened the theater workshop space to the public so they can see back stage and the wardrobe area and has created events to encourage community participation including cooking classes with a literature professor preparing meals from famous Polish novels. Sienkiewicz would like to experience new approaches to management and cooperation and attend cutting-edge and experimental performing arts events. REDCAT is an interdisciplinary contemporary arts center for innovative visual, performing and media arts featuring one of the most versatile and technologically advanced presentation spaces in the world. Mr. Sienkiewicz will work with production, administrative and management staff and with CalArts students and faculty. He will meet Los Angeles theater professionals and representatives of organizations such as Cornerstone Theater and Los Angeles Poverty Department that are engaged with local communities. He will also have an opportunity to present the work of Nowy Theatre and to attend a variety of cultural events. Mark Murphy, Executive Director, will oversee the residency.
