More Than One Hundred and Twenty Productions At The Fourth United Solo Festival in Manhattan NY

Singer, author, and actress Zara Phillips will appear in “Beneath My Father’s Sky,” co-directed by Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts. Actor and TV host Christian Moralde is coming from Los Angeles with his personal story “Don’t Call Me Walter!” directed by Emmy Award-winning actor and director Charles St. Clair and produced by Dana Kenerson, 2012 Emmy nominated producer of Anderson Cooper’s daily show. The New York Times bestselling author Mina Samuels will take the stage to deliberate on fear, risk, and taking chances in her solo piece “Hazards.”

Twenty shows created by artists who have flourished at United Solo in the past, recognized with awards or returning by popular demand, fall into the ENCORE category. “Longing for Grace” (winner of three United Solo Awards in 2012), performed by Grace Kiley and directed by Austin Pendleton, will mark the director’s fourth show at the Festival. Other artists who have been in all three previous seasons include Donald Molosi, whose presence at United Solo has been noted by the BBC and other international news outlets.

Further ENCORE shows include Broadway veteran and 2012 United Solo Best Actress Award winner Ann Morrison, presenting a new show about her mother’s career as a painter. Morrison will also direct Blake Walton in his autobiographical solo piece “Leading Men.” Slash Coleman, known from his nationally televised PBS special will perform in the premiere of “The Bohemian Love Diaries,” an adaptation of his memoir, which chronicles his upbringing in a household of eccentric artists including a grandfather who danced at the Moulin Rouge. Ana Asensio, a movie star from Spain, will perform in “Mica’s Skin,” a comedy written by best-selling Spanish author, Paloma Bravo.

Other international participants include Vicky Araico Casas in “Juana in a Million,” winner of a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival and Off West End Award nominee for Best Female performance. Canadian Comedy Award nominee Christel Bartelse comes to United Solo with her show “Oneymoon.” Sahil Farooqi, known for his appearances on reality TV, brings his semi-autobiographical piece “A Brown Monkey Goes To McDonald’s.” Both Makoto Inoue from Japan and Roger Westberg from Sweden will bring solo pieces inspired by Shakespeare. Inoue’s interpretation of “Richard III” combines mime and kabuki elements, while Westberg will present his version of “Hamlet” adapted to stand-up.
