Assessing the winners of the Transfer Market so Far (7/25/17)

25 lipca, 2017

With much of the transfer season already completed, many clubs around Europe staged massive deals for players. This season saw the emergence of one such club, while also continued the heavy spending of some of the top clubs from the Premier League. Here are the most successful looking transfer campaigns so far.

4. Arsenal
Arsenal have finally managed to sign their forward in Alexandre Lacazette. The former Lyon striker has been a top center forward in France for his former club for several seasons now. Arsene Wenger needed a front man that could alternate with Olivier Giroud, who has been the club’s main #9 for quite a while now. Giroud has been a strong option for Wenger, but his lack of mobility meant that often times Wenger had to rely on Alexis Sanchez to be the main striker. With Lacazette, there is pace and trickery upfront. The addition of Kolasinic from Schalke 04 looks to be a strong purchase too. The left back has been one of the strongest defenders from the Bundesliga for quite some time. Lastly, holding onto Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil looks to be more likely for every passing day for the Gunners.

3. Bayern Munich
The Bundesliga champions continue to show their shrewd business in the market this summer. The addition of Corentin Tolisso and James Rodriguez for nearly bargain prices show that Bayern can still land quality players in today’s transfer environment. James can prove to be a signing on the level of Robben/Ribery, players who have defined Bayern on the pitch in the last decade. While Tolisso can develop into a midfielder in the mold of Arturo Vidal.

2. Manchester City
One problem area that City has failed to address in the last several years was the fullback position. City has now bought three of them. Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker, and Danilo were signed to replace the aging (and already sold) Bacary Sagna, Aleksander Kolarov, Gael Clichy, and Pablo Zabaleta. In addition, Bernardo Silva and Ederson were brought in to bring in a new look for the Citizens. Pep Guardiola has a squad that should be in its peak within the next few seasons. However, Manchester City will heavily be expected to win a major title come next season. Despite whatever happens, the blue half of Manchester will have a very strong squad come the next few years.

1. AC Milan
The Italian juggernaut has come back with a vengeance this transfer season. After former president Berlusconi sold the club to a Chinese consortium, heaving spending was expected. However, no one expected the flurry of transfers that would happen this summer. Leonardo Bonucci, Andre Silva, Andrea Conti, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ricardo Rodriguez, Mateo Musacchio, Lucas Biglia, Frank Kessie, Antonio Donnarumma, and Fabio Borini all became part of the Ac Milan squad this summer. This may finally be the summer where the Milanese side became Champions league level again.
