New Lessons from Poland’s 2nd and 3rd gain wins in World Cup Qualifiers

1. Poland very Vulnerable Defensively
Poland has shown throughout the world cup qualifiers that they are suspect to give up significant goal leads. Denmark was allowed to score two after Lewandowski’s hat trick, one of the goals conceded being a Kamil Glik own goal. Armenia was able to tie 1-1 one minute after Poland’s opener through a dubiously defended free kick. And of course, Lewandowski gave up a two goal lead against Kazakhstan to surrender an easily attainable three-point lead in the first round. Head coach Adam Nawalka has allowed Poland to sit back after these leads, and it has punished the national team as a result. For the time being, it would suit Poland to play on the front foot; as they have more than enough talent to keep scoring goals and piling on the pressure.

2. Robert Lewandowski is currently the best striker in International Football
In club football, one can argue that status of who is the best #9 right now. Luis Suarez, Sergio Aguero, and Robert Lewandowski are all in the running to be the “best striker” in the world. However, the Polish international continues to deliver for the national team. Scoring a hat trick and then a brace in a space of several days, he is the spearhead of attack that no other national team currently has. This is in addition to his performances leading up to Euro 2016, where he was the highest scoring player in the end of the qualifying campaign. He scores in an incredible rate for Poland, and despite his below-par performance in Euro 2016, continues to deliver time and time again.

3. Teodorczyk has a Massive Opportunity
Even though it was a good week for Poland as a whole, injuries to Lukasz Piszczek and Arkadiusz Milik have marred the pair of victories. The latter is especially a blow, since he will be out around six months due to an ACL injury. Bring in Teodorczyk. The 25-year-old forward is currently on loan from Dinamo Kyiv to Anderlecht. He has scored eight goals in his first five appearances for the Belgian club. Milik will be a great loss, since he has been on form for Napoli so far in the season, but this will certainly give a chance to Teodorczyk to become Poland’s pair forward with Lewandowski. He will play a big role in Poland’s world cup qualifying campaign, and this can be the breakthrough months that will push him into the limelight like Milik was able to.
