Is this Eden Hazard’s final year at Chelsea?

Michael Skok     01 listopada, 2015

As the terrible season continues for the current Premier League titleholders, questions have risen regarding Hazard’s future at Chelsea. Recently, rumors connected to Real Madrid have surfaced speculating Hazard’s next destination in his footballing career.

Even though the Belgian winger recently signed a new contract with the London club, Chelsea’s fortunes this season may be enough to convince the winger his success lies elsewhere. Clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, and even Bayern Munich can convince the former player of the year to join their ranks come next season (to varying degrees). The constant rumor-milling concerning Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Los Blancos would certainly leave enough room for Hazard to shine in the capital city of Spain. Barcelona, although already quite filled in the attacking department, certainly has the money to spend and may still look for another talented attacker that can boost their ranks across the three major competitions they compete in. PSG have previously been linked with the Belgian international and can look to Hazard has the next big transfer as Zlatan Ibrahimovic approaches an older age. Bayern Munich, although the least to splash cash out of these four clubs, will certainly look around Europe in order to replace the dynamic duo of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben as they too age well past 30. Eden Hazard, under the right circumstances, would pique the interest of any of these clubs.

Under the context of this season, it is also certainly possible that Hazard may feel his time is up with the Blues of London. Chelsea is almost certainly out of the title race, as they now have six losses out of the first 11 matches they played. What’s even more shocking is that those results alone so far are putting the current title-holders outside of the top four race. Chelsea without Champions League football, particularly on the eve of the new Premier League TV deal, would be quite disastrous. Of course the club will still retain plenty of money to spend, however there is no indication whether Hazard will be willing to bring the Blues back to the summit of the table as well as CL football, especially if the aforementioned clubs keep calling. These clubs can offer him these perks, as well as a willingness to play more attractive, attacking football than the current management at Chelsea employs. One thing is for sure, his loyalty will surely be tested if Chelsea fail to at least retain their Champions League pedigree.

Overall, Hazard himself has been quite abysmal for Chelsea football club this season. He has never been able to hit the heights of last season and has failed to become the talismatic figure the supporters had grown accustomed to. His lack of any decent performances after all may be enough to perturb other clubs inquiring for him in the off-season (or at least matching the outstanding figure Chelsea would surely attach to his name). One thing is for sure, Chelsea and Hazard have to start performing soon for both of their sakes.
