In what was a potentially season-defining match for the London Blues, it was Mourinho’s men that enjoyed a 2-0 win over the Gunners.
In what was first a very close match between the two London sides, it was Diego Costa that proved to have the match-winning moment. Just before the end of the first half, the Spanish striker managed to provoke Gabriel Paulista into a scuffle. The Brazilian defender was the loser in all of this, as he was sent off by Mike Dean, who overall had a controversial game. As a result, Arsenal never recovered after the red card. Questions will rise whether or not Diego Costa should have also been on the field with his rough treatment with the likes of Laurent Koscielny as well as the aforementioned Gabriel.
Nevertheless, it was Kurt Zouma who scored off a Cesc Fabregas free kick, providing the winner for Mourinho’s men. Eden Hazard opened his account for the season as well, as he struck late on to guarantee a win over then 9-men Arsenal (after Santi Cazorla was sent off after two yellow cards). Jose Mourinho will be pleased to have kept intact his record over Arsene Wenger’s side in the league, as the French manager has yet to record a win against his Portuguese rival in the Premier League. Chelsea pick up there 2nd win in the league, while Arsenal will be looking to regroup after having a shocking week in the Champions League and the Premier League.
