We had a press conference today with the resolution to the Jersey City waterfront issues that was covered nationally and internationally. It truly ended as a win-win for everyone whether you are someone that wants more parks, or someone that was concerned about the respect of the monument. I certainly recognize that the easiest route for me was to leave everything as it is but that is a good political decision not a good decision for progress.
The outcome is as follows.
1) Exchange Place will be renovated into a huge green open space with a children’s area. The area will be outfitted for stages and kiosks so that it becomes a destination. The cost will be covered by placing a surcharge on the developers in the area and no tax dollars will be spent. The picture of this park is one of my previous posts
2) York Street will also be renovated via a joint effort from Jersey City and the Polish Government. It will be designed as pictured into a more appropriate place to reflect on the Katyn Massacre as opposed to Exchange Place. We will enter into a 99 year franchise agreement on this property with the Polish Consulate.
3) Jaclyn and I will be visiting Poland and Auschwitz at the end of June.
