Marcin Gortat, in an intrview with CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, describes the incredible support he continues to receive from the Washington Wizards and his teammates who support him and his MG13 Foundation.
On the eve of the 4th annual Polish Heritage Night with Marcin Gortat and the Washington Wizards, Ambassador Piotr Wilczek hosted a kickoff celebration at his residence, welcoming Polish-Americans, guests from Poland, prominent Washingtonians as well as Washington Wizards players and staff for a unique night celebrating Polish Heritage in Washington, D.C.
“I can’t think of a better way to kick off Polish Heritage Weekend than with the world of sports and celebrity coming together in the nation’s capital. Poland has a long and proud history, and I am so happy that this weekend presents an opportunity to celebrate our Polish Heritage” asserted Ambassador Wilczek.
The highlight of the evening was an interview with Marcin Gortat conducted by CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, a passionate Wizards fan who also spoke about his own Polish heritage. The interview touched upon not only Marcin’s 10 yearlong adventure in the NBA, but about all the work he does off the court as well, including the work he does promoting basketball among Polish youths as well as the special attention and support he gives to Polish wounded warrior families. Wolf Blitzer also interviewed Marcin’s special Polish Heritage Night guests, actress Alicja Bachleda-Curus and UFC World Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who spoke about the pride they have in their Polish Heritage and about all the great work Marcin Gortat does in promoting Poland in the United States.
Among the special guests in attendance were Washington Wizard’s General Manager Ernie Grunfeld, Head Coach Scott Brooks, Assistant Coaches Tony Brown and David Adkins, as well as players Otto Porter, Tomas Satoransky and Ian Mahinmi.
As Ambassador Wilczek declared, “This evening and weekend could not be possible without the other Polish Ambassador, and may I add a slightly taller one, Marcin Gortat. Marcin – you continue to be not only a role model for young people around the world, but you’re tireless work helps bind our two countries ever closer together. Thank you for all that you do, and let’s go Wizards!”
