Vote to Improve Greenpoint’s Environment

19 listopada, 2014

GCEF is asking Greenpoint residents to vote for the projects most important to them at three Community Preferencing Events

Our neighborhood has a well-documented problem with street trash. For the past year, the Greenpoint Chamber of Commerce has been designing a project to eliminate litter, and equip citizens with easy ways to reduce the amount of waste they generate. We’ve assembled a team of experts from places like the Department of Sanitation, Placemeter, NYU and Closed Loops to:
  • Install new trash cans and Big Belly solar compactors
  • Reduce the amount of rats and cockroaches on the street
  • Increase street cleaning and trash pick up frequency
  • Educate students with a new waste reduction course designed by the Center for Urban Pedagogy
  • Create opportunities for businesses to sponsor cans near storefronts
  • Establish Greenpoint as a model neighborhood for sustainable waste management

Curb Your Litter: Greenpoint is one of 13 finalists in a competitive grant process from the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund (GCEF), who is awarding $19.5 million to a select group of projects to improve Greenpoint’s environment. GCEF is asking Greenpoint residents to vote for the projects most important to them at three Community Preferencing Events (proof of local residency required):
