LXMP unites two of Warsaw\'s most versatile musicians - Piotr Zabrodzki and Macio Moretti. Their recording label, Lado ABC, describes their project this way: Using the basic set of drums, bass guitar and two MS-20 synthesizers, Piotras and Macias try to recall the memories of romantic strolls across downtown Warsaw allotments, unexplained absences from phys-ed classes or the taste of snow in far-away mountain resorts. How this relates to their wild, frenetic sound is for you to imagine. LXMP stole the show at The David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center during Unsound Festival New York 2012.
Precisely 30 years after Herbie Hancock released Future Shock--from which everyone remembers "Rock It" and little else--LXMP is offering its own take on the what was to have been Hancock\'s prelude to the 21st Century. To answer the commission of Unsound festival, whose theme for 2011 was "Future Shock" (referring to Alvin Toffler\'s book), Piotrek and Maciek took Hancock\'s "future" as a point of departure, delving into the world of synthesizers, the ominous retro MIDI sound, digital reverbs, horrific longueurs and Bill Laswell. But then they did all they could to cross out everything from that list, except the synthesizers. And the drums. And the broad use of the vocoder. And Thymme Jones of Cheer-Accident who laid down the drums on the title track. Before the release, the band showcased the material live in Poland, around Europe, and in the cradle of futureshockism - the US, where their rendition met with deep understanding and respect from the MIDI tribe.
