Dr Katarzyna Kowalska conducted the interactive lecture about the structure of college education in the United States. She talked about the cost of studying, she spoke about the financial aid for students and about calculating the family’s potential education expenses, and she presented the scholarship programs available from Polonia organizations.

PSFCU representatives spoke about the program for financing education available through our Credit Union and answered  questions regarding the criteria for applying for Credit Union Student Choice loans as well as PSFCU credit cards offering competitive rates.

The informative session called “Mini Studies 4U” was expected to take one and a half hours but it took about three hours due to the record attendance. Right after 7pm the branch started to overcrowd and before the lecture started there were over 80 people in the room. PSFCU offered refreshments and snacks for the participants.

“We are very glad that our Members so eagerly attend our seminars and educational sessions. We organize them together with dr Kowalska and Polish Students Organization in various locations so this time we decided to organize the meeting at the PSFCU branch. Thanks to these lectures young people and their parents can together make the right financial decisions that will be crucial in the further development of the student’s professional career”. – said Agnieszka Bak, PSFCU NJ District Manager.

"I am happy that so many people attended the event - judging by the questions and comments of the participants, this kind of knowledge is needed and not necessarily passed on to the parents by the schools. I am especially content to see the parents of the children from the primary schools. At this stage, a lot can still be done to help guide the child and prepare oneself financially for the higher education (as well as increase the odds of receiving financial aid from the university).

I would also like to thank the Credit Union for many years of supporting the informational initiatives of the Polish Students Organization in NY and for their generous help to the Polonia’s youth in the form of their scholarship programs. I encourage the parents (and the students) participate in this year’s Scholarship contest – deadline is in the middle of March, so there is still time” - said Dr. Kowalska.

After the successful meeting on the request of many participants Dr. Kowalska promised to prepare another educational session regarding other issues related to studying in the US. Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union promised to organize and sponsor the event; details will be available shortly on www.psfcu.com and on the facebook at “Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union”.
