Admitted drug cheat Melky Cabrera has been slapped with a 50-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball\'s drug policy.
Major League Baseball\'s commissioners office announced Wednesday that the San Francisco Giants outfielder, who was MVP of the all-star game, has tested positive for testosterone.
The Dominican native Cabrera is having his best season in the majors with a .346 batting average, 11 homers and 60 runs batted in.
Cabrera admitted using performance-enhancing drugs and said he would not appeal the suspension.
"My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used," Cabrera said.
"I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life."
The Giants signed Cabrera to a one-year deal in January after he was acquired from Kansas City in a trade.
Cabrera was a career .275 hitter in seven pro seasons with the Yankees, Braves and Royals entering this year.
