Polish-Jewish Relations Over the Past Year

03 marca, 2015

On 2 March, Undersecretary of State Katarzyna Kacperczyk met in Warsaw with the leaders of Poland’s Jewish community to sum up Polish-Jewish relations and discuss cooperation prospects

The interlocutors agreed that the key event of last year was the opening of the core exhibition at the Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews, which is a state-of-the-art showcase of nearly a millennium of Jewish history in Poland. “The museum plays and will play a special role for the Polish-Jewish community,” noted Deputy Minister Kacperczyk. “It has a great potential to project a positive image of today’s Poland abroad,” she added. The discussion also covered anniversary events. 27 January marked the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi camp Auschwitz Birkenau; the commemorations were attended by close to 300 former prisoners and over 40 official state delegations. The deputy chief of Polish diplomacy recalled that 2015 also marks the 25th anniversary of resuming diplomatic relations between Poland and Israel.

The meeting at the MFA headquarters was attended by Chief Rabbi of Poland Michael Schudrich, President of the Union of Jewish Communities in Poland Lesław Piszewski, presidents of Poland’s major Jewish communities, and leaders of social and cultural institutions.
