The 7th Vistula Festival of Polish Films in Kaliningrad

15 września, 2014

Over a dozen Polish films produced in the last few years will be screened during Vistula Festival of Polish Films that will kick off on 15 September 2014. The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Kaliningrad is the official partner of the event.

The festival will open with the award winning movie Life Feels Good directed by Maciej Pieprzyca. The film will be shown in the large screening room of the Zaria Cinema in Kaliningrad.  It will close with Walesa. Man of Hope made by the Oscar winning director Andrzej Wajda. Almost all silver screen’s genres: drama, thriller, detective movie and romantic comedy will be presented during the festival.

“We have decided to show many different films and to address difficult issues. Most of the pictures we have selected have won at least the audience award. We started in 2010 with a modest screening in Kaliningrad,” says Consul Ryszard Sosiński, responsible for culture and promotion in the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Kaliningrad.  “Four other cities in the Kaliningrad Oblast joined in the following years. In June 2014, screenings were organised in Svetlogorsk, Primorye, and Zelenogradsk to an audience of over 2,100 people. In October we are planning to organise one more edition in Chernyakhovsk, which has a large and particularly active Polish diaspora.

The Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Kaliningrad, Marcin Nosal, when thanking the directors of the Vistula Festival for their interesting offer, stressed that the festival’s guests will see twelve pictures that have been acclaimed in Poland and abroad. For the first time as many as seven films will be shown in the big hall of Kaliningrad’s most prestigious cinema, Zaria.

This is the seventh edition of the Vistula Polish Film Festival in Russia and the fifth in the Kaliningrad Oblast. It is organised by Fundacja Wspieram (“I Support” Foundation).  The festival’s aim is to get Poles and Russians to know each other better and to build genuine ties between the Polish and Russian societies.
