Atlantic Council Freedom Awards Dinner in Poland

Tthe “Freedom Awards” were awarded for the fifth year by the US think tank The Atlantic Council, during the second day of activities of the Wroclaw Global Forum, which took place from June 5-7 2014.

Ambassador Ryszard Schnepf, together with his American counterpart Ambassador Stephen Mull, was honorary hosts of the Freedom Awards Dinner during which the “Freedom Awards” were awarded for the fifth year by the US think tank The Atlantic Council. This prestigious event concluded the second day of activities of the Wroclaw Global Forum, which took place from June 5-7 2014.

Thanking the organizers of the forum (the Atlantic Council, the City of Wroclaw, Polish Institute of International Affairs), Ambassador Schnepf emphasized, that “Wroclaw is today the world capital of transatlantic relations.” Commenting on the state of Polish-American relations, Ryszard Schnepf pointed to the unusually intense bilateral contacts at the highest level during the past six months (visit of the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, the Vice President and the President of the United States). The Ambassador also recalled the words proclaimed by President Barack Obama on June 4th at Castle Square in Warsaw, that “Poland will never stand alone.”

Established by the Atlantic Council in 2009, “Freedom Awards” recognize extraordinary individuals and organizations that defend and advance the cause of freedom around the world.” This year’s recipients are Lady Catherine Ashton, head of EU diplomacy, Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, former Prime Minister of Hungary Miklos Meneth, “People of the Maidan” as well as the Polish-American Freedom Foundation and Jerzy Koźmiński.  Many noteworthy individuals introduced the recipients of the FreedomAwards , including among others the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski (Euromaidan) professor Zbigniew Brzeziński (Jerzy Koźmiński) and Senator Chris Murphy (Toomas Hendrik Ilves).
