Krakow the best Europe’s tourist destination of 2014

16 stycznia, 2014

In a ranking published by Zoover.com, a travel price comparison website, Dutch tourists have found Krakow to be Europe’s best tourist destination of 2014. In the competition, which closed on 15 January, Poland’s former capital city has beaten such venues as Seville or Venice.

The ranking has been based on over thirty thousand opinions about different European cities by website users who assessed night life, cultural offer, the city’s surroundings and atmosphere, and hotel standards. According to the voters, Krakow has the best four- and five-star hotels in comparison to other tourist destinations. The city has also ranked very high in the cultural offer category.

Poland’s Deputy Head of Mission in The Hague Piotr Perczynski, who received the prize on behalf of Krakow’s authorities, stressed that it is a great and well-deserved honour for the city. “This is fantastic news for Krakow and for all of us. The distinction should not, however, surprise anyone who has already visited this beautiful city. We are very happy that the website users have put Krakow so high on the list that included so many other wonderful European cities,” Mr Perczynski underscored.

Apart from Krakow’s rich cultural offer, what surprises most the Dutch and European tourists is the kindness of locals and modest prices. All this, according to the authors of reviews published on the website that is available in as many as 25 language versions, makes Krakow a very special place.

“For those who wish to visit a European city but think they have already seen it all, Krakow is an absolute must,” writes one of the service users. Different parts of the city are recommended: “Look outside the city centre―visit the Jewish district of Kazimierz, the socialist-realist district of Nowa Huta or the Kosciuszko Mound viewpoint.”

Seville and Venice have ranked second and third in the online poll. Both cities have received good marks for the cultural offer. According to Zoover users, Seville has the best atmosphere, while Venice can boast the best luxury hotels. Krakow has also beaten other renowned tourist venues, such as Barcelona, Bruges, Rome, Vienna, Berlin or Prague.
