Pole, Artur Kłopotowski appointed to high-level position in the European External Action Service

In February Artur Kłopotowski will assume the prestigious position of Head of Division for Human Resources Policy and Coordination in the Department of Human Resources in the Brussels Headquarters of the European External Action Service (EEAS).

He was selected from among 20 candidates from EU Member States, the EEAS and the European Commission.

Artur Kłopotowski will be responsible for human resource policy in the EEAS head office in Brussels, in 141 EU delegations in third countries and in 8 EU delegations to international organisations. Appointment of a Pole to such important post wins another recognition for Poland.

The European External Action Service employs 91 Poles: 55 in the Brussels’s head office, 14 in EU delegations and 22 as national experts.

Artur Kłopotowski graduated from the English Department of the University of Warsaw. MFA employee since 1995, currently as Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU in Brussels. He specialises in multilateral diplomacy. He began his career in the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in New York, assigned to the UN Security Council during Poland’s two-year UN Security Council membership in 1996-97. Twice held the post of Deputy Director for Political Affairs in MFA’s UN departments: in 2002-2004 in UN and Global Problems Department, and in 2009-2010 in the UN and Human Rights Department. In 2004-2009, Head of External Relations Section in the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU in Brussels; also worked as deputy representative of the Republic of Poland on the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the European Union.
