The 68th Chopin Piano Competition in Washington, D.C.
January 30, 2024
Marek Skulimowski - The Kosciuszko Foundation
We invite you to join us for a musical event happening between February 28 to March 3, 2024. In anticipation of the event, the Foundation is looking for anyone interested in volunteering to be a host family for one of eight semifinalists planning to travel to Washington, D.C.
The contestants are all adult-aged and dedicated musicians who are attending this international competition with the hopes of playing for the esteemed jury and having a chance to play a concerto with the members of the National Philharmonic under the baton of Maestro Piotr Gajewski.
As a host, you would be crucial to supporting these young artists while they engage in this meaningful musical event. The responsibilities of hosting a contestant would include:
- transport to and from the airport or train station on arrival and departure days.
- having a private room for them in your home, providing meals, and a piano to practice (preferably a grand piano).
- transport to the location of the semifinal and final rounds at the St.Ann's Catholic Church (4001 Yuma St NW, Washington, DC 20016) and to the Residence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland on March 3 (3041 Whitehaven St, NW, Washington, DC 20008).
The contestants will arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 27-28, and depart on Monday, March 4, 2024. All semifinalists and their hosts will be invited to attend the awards ceremony directly following the final round at the Residence of the Polish Ambassador on Sunday, March 3.
