Discovering Michigan’s Polonia Legacy Through Historical Tour of Grand Rapids

Orchard Lake, MI – The Polish Institute of Culture & Research at Orchard Lake is proud to announce the Historical Tour of Grand Rapids Polonia, an immersive journey through the rich history of Polish communities in Michigan beyond the metropolitan Detroit area. The event will partner with the Polish Genealogical Society of Michigan and the Polish Heritage Society of Grand Rapids on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

Participants will embark on a day-long motor coach tour starting at the Galeria in Orchard Lake, which opens at 8:30 AM for an exclusive tour. The itinerary includes visits to key historical and cultural sites in Grand Rapids:

  • Holy Cross Cemetery
  • Lunch at PNA Society’s Jackson Street Hall
  • St. Isidore’s Catholic Church
  • Shopping at the Downtown Christkindl Markt

This tour highlights the enduring impact of Polonia’s contributions to Michigan’s cultural tapestry.

Ania Bieciuk, Associate Director for Polonia Affairs, emphasized the significance of expanding the focus on Polish American heritage across the state:

“The rich history of Michigan’s Polonia extends far beyond the boundaries of metro Detroit. From urban centers to smaller towns, the legacy of Polish immigrants and their love for community has left a lasting imprint on every corner of the state. We are thrilled to broaden our horizons and shine a light on the remarkable accomplishments of Polish Americans across Michigan.”
